A) Reservation Policies
Our rates are expressed in US dollars. However, according to business conditions, Toyota Rent a Car reserves the right to modify any rates through publication on its website. Should the reservation take place in a period of time when the High and Low season overlap, the applicable rate for the entire period would be the rate effective on the first day of rental.
At the time of pickup of the prepaid rental, drivers must physically present the same credit card used for online prepayment. This same card must also be used to cancel the full-service amount.
The Online Payment Service allows you to be eligible for a 10% discount on your time and mileage rate.
To redeem this discount, at the time of reservation, Toyota Rent a Car shall charge 10% of your reservation amount to the credit card you have entered into our system. Your reservation will be confirmed within the next 24 hours.
B) Cancellation and No Show Policy
In case of cancellation or no-show, Toyota Rent a Car will not refund any amount prepaid or charged to your Credit Card through the On-Line Payment Service.
C) Credit or Debit Card
Credit or debit card used to complete an online prepaid reservation must be presented at the rental pick-up counter as a form of payment along with identification. Debit Cards ARE NOT ACCEPTED for security deposits, because the process of releasing the holdings might take up to 45 workings days.
D) Delayed Collections/ No show policy
Reservations will be held for 1 hour from the specified reservation time after which they will be classed as a no-show. If a customer arrives after this time then a vehicle is not assured. We will do everything possible to provide a vehicle. This may include offering a different vehicle and rates may be different from the original booking.
Flight numbers provided are for informational purposes only. It is the responsibility of the customer to inform the location of any delays.
E) Early Returns/Unused Rental Days
No refunds (partial or full) will be given for rentals ended early, late collections, no shows, or cancellations made after the rental start date.
F) Late Returns
A vehicle is hired for a contracted period as detailed on the rental agreement. The return day and time as selected by the customer at the time of booking will be enforced regardless of the delayed pickup time. If the vehicle is returned outside the grace period, there will be a charge of an additional day or a late fee. Grace period: 1 hour
G) Lost Keys
Toyota Rent a car will charge if keys are lost or damaged. Please note that if a vehicle is stolen and keys are not returned to the rental location, the hirer will be deemed negligent. Lost keys are deemed as negligence and are not covered under the insurance excess limitation or risk reduction packages. Drivers will be liable for all costs relating to recovery, loss of use, and repair. This list is not exhaustive.
Pets are allowed to ride in the vehicles with no additional fees. Toyota Rent a Car suggests that the pet be kept in a carrier or crate. Renters are responsible for any damage caused by the pet, and to avoid cleaning charges up to $250, Service animals used by customers with disabilities are allowed in the vehicle without a Carrier, vehicles should be returned clean and free of pet hair.
I) Fines, Penalties, and Administration Charges
It is the responsibility of each hirer to cover the cost of any parking fines and traffic violations. When fines or traffic violations occur and a Toyota Rent a Car location is involved in administering the charge then an administration fee will be charged to the customer.
J) Vehicle Trackers
Some of our vehicles contain tracking devices that will be used by our data protection policy.
K) Cancellation Administration Charge
If a reservation is not collected or not canceled in advance of the start time then Toyota Rent a car will levy a charge.
For pay on arrival reservations made online, the no-show/cancellation fee will equal the pre-paid deposit and no refund will be due.
All prepaid reservations will be subject to a cancellation fee of $15. The amount due for no-show/cancellations will be calculated in line with the below:
For any bookings with a value of less than $15, there will be no refund due regardless of when the cancellation request was made.
The notice period is based on a day is a 24 hour period, up to the start time, not a calendar day.
Will not be held responsible for anyone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing wilful damage, off-road driving, or driving without due care and attention. The customer will accept responsibility in respect of such claims. This list is not exclusive.

L) Insurance Policy / Security Deposits
Keep in mind that most vehicle insurance policy outside of Costa Rica doesn’t offer coverage in the country. Liability insurance contracted on third-party travel websites is not an acceptable form of coverage. The employees of the local office of the rental company are not qualified to evaluate the suitability of the personal insurance of the customer's vehicle. The client should contact their insurance company in advance to raise any questions related to the coverage in question. In addition, if the client provides valid proof of current coverage in Costa Rica and rejects the CDW, he will be responsible for the total value for damage or loss of the vehicle and will retain an additional authorization of 3500 USD on his credit card at the time of rental.
Guarantee deposits go from $0 to $5.000 depending on the type of coverage and vehicle selected.

Coverages purchased on third-party websites or insurance companies are not accepted by Toyota Rent Car Costa Rica. The purchase of
SLI Supplemental Liability Insurance always mandatory. SLI cannot be declined by any Credit Card, protects from third party claims for damages caused to a third party vehicle with a minimum deductible of US$500 up to a maximum deductible of 20%.
N) Previous Deposit
If Toyota Rent a Car agrees, it can demand that the customer make a deposit before the signing of this contract, to guarantee the rent of the car or any other benefits to which it is obliged. If the deposit is insufficient, the customer must satisfy any difference that exists at the time of the return of the car. Toyota Rent a Car may require this deposit through the customer's credit card.
O) Driver License Requirements
The renter and the driver must be in possession of a valid driving license.
Driving licenses must be held for a minimum of 1 year. UK license holders need to present the photo card and the DVLA check code (obtainable from the DVLA website).
There are limitations on accepting driving licenses. Driving licenses should be in English, Latin, or Cyrillic letters. International Driving licenses are required when a driving license is not in English, Latin, or Cyrillic letters. Any driver must produce a valid, original copy of their driving license including photo ID.
If a customer arrives at the rental desk without the necessary documentation as stated above, the booking will be canceled. In these cases, there will be no refund.
P) Fuel Policy
Pick up full, return full. Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. To avoid incurring fuel charges you will need to return it full. Missing fuel will be charged on your return. The price per liter charged by the rental agent may be significantly higher than the price at the local service station.
No refunds will be given for unused fuel. Fuel charges are payable at the rental desk.
You can add a Pre-Paid Fuel service, so you can return the tank empty and avoid any charges.
