TOYOTA Rent a Car a franchise of TOYOTA Motors (Japan), opened its doors in Costa Rica in 1968 under the name of Central American Rental Car Society.

Under the leadership of Xavier Quirós, the company first opened doors in Paseo Colón, San José, at the cross-section of 30th and 32nd streets. Three other sales offices were opened at the Radisson, Amon and Holiday Hotels. These hotel offices remained open until 1999.

Today, TOYOTA Rent to Car Rent a Car operates in seven different locations throughout the country: San José, Alajuela, Liberia, Nosara, Tambor and Quepos.

Environmental Awareness

What is Green Heart?

Having a Green Heart means being aware of the impact we have on our stakeholders and taking actions to reduce and/or compensate for such impact.

Why are we Green Heart?

  • Because we measure the CO2 emissions of our fleet and create awareness of our environmental impact.
  • Third tier Sustainable Tourism Certification.
  • Toyota Rent a Car applies and obeys the rules to conform with the national regulation that applies to our activity. Law of Conservation of Wildlife.Establish the illegal act of keeping wild animals in captive.  And plant species.
  • We compensate our carbon footprint through the purchase of Carbon Offset Credits from the National Fund for Forest Financing, known as FONAFIFO. FONAFIFO executes the national Environmental Services Program whose mission is to preserve and recuperate Costa Rican forests through a strategic financial stimulus plan.
  • All of our gasoline-fuel TOYOTA vehicles have a VVT-I engine. This unique TOYOTA technology ensures high-level performance and more efficient fuel consumption while reducing CO2 emissions.
  • We offer hybrid vehicles.
  • We guaranty minimal environmental impact through optimal vehicle performance: our vehicles are less than 2 years old or have total mileage of less than 30,000miles (50,000 kilometers) and they undergo routine preventive maintenance according to TOYOTA specifications and only use original TOYOTA parts.
  • We have developed a rain-water collection system which is used to wash our vehicles.
  • Our recycling program is lead by a group of committed associates called the Green Team. This team manages our internal awareness campaigns as well as the disposal of oil, tires, filters, batteries, aluminum, paper, cardboard and plastic through certified recycling agencies.
  • Our shops are designed to take advantage of natural light for illumination purposes.
  • We are part of the local community service group Colón Sabana.
  • We are affiliated with the Entrepreneurial Association for Development known as AED
